Sail Rock Dive Site Koh Phangan Thailand

Considered the premiere dive site in the Gulf of Thailand, Sail Rock is a pinnacle that rises to 15m above and 40m below the surface and is situated between Koh Phangan and Koh tao.

It’s famous for its natural underwater vertical swim through or chimney which divers can enter at 6 meters and exit at 18. It is also the visiting site of much larger pelagic fish including chevron barracuda, big schools of mackerel, jacks, trevally, and tuna.

Sail Rock is one of the best places in Thailand to have the chance of seeing the whale shark. Giant moray eels and lionfish have also taken up residency. The Triggerfish is also very playful during their nesting period!

There are many dive sites to choose from so we will take you to the best 2 with regard to conditions and weather.

The dive sites we prefer to use are Shark Island, Hin Wong, Laem Tian, and Aow Leuk. Koh Tao also offers the chance of seeing turtles, small reef sharks, and an abundance of triggerfish.

The crystal clear waters around the island make the day trip perfect for snorkelers as well

Ang Thong National Marine Park

AngThong Marine Park Koh Phangan Thailand

Angthong consists of 42 islands, and its name means “Golden Urn” in Thai.

These beautiful islands are located to the west of Koh Phangan and have many overhangs and swim-throughs together with sloping reefs starting from around 2 meters.

The two most popular dive spots in the national park are Koh Yippon (meaning “Japanese Island ” in Thai) and Hin Yippon (meaning “Japanese Rock” in Thai) where you can enter the shallow caves and swim-throughs. Soft corals like sea fans and black corals are plentiful and you may also see the banded sea crates and turtles that live here.

These sites are very good for snorkelers, new divers doing their PADI Discover Scuba Diver program as well as the more experienced diver.

Koh Ma - Local Dive

Koh Maa Koh Phangan Thailand

Koh Ma is a beautiful small island connected to the beach of Mae Haad by a sand bar. This dive site offers shallow water with beautiful coral reefs and has a mix of hard and soft corals which can be accessed directly from the beach or a short boat trip from Chaloklum pier.

  • Depth: max-depth 18m
